Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has voiced his disapproval of Ghana’s judicial system, claiming it has become deeply influenced by political interests. Speaking on 3FM, Cudjoe condemned the recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant. He described the judgment as “judicial terrorism.”

“I’m saddened that the judiciary has become a playground for politicians,” Cudjoe stated, adding that he believes the Chief Justice can now “empanel judges who may think along her lines” on critical issues, creating what he labeled a “bully playground.”

Cudjoe further alleged that the court’s 5-2 majority decision was designed to create a false impression of diversity in judicial opinion. “The 5-2 decision was just to make us feel as if there is some division among them,” he said, adding that the decision was “a joke” that points to the need for more transparency in the nomination process.

Cudjoe’s remarks underscore a growing public discourse on judicial independence and the political dynamics within Ghana’s legal system.
