The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of Ghana’s Trade Union Congress has announced plans to strike on Monday, November 18, if the government does not implement an agreed-upon Conditions of Service package.

TEWU’s statement, released on Thursday, November 14, describes mounting frustration over what it calls a “prolonged delay” in finalizing service conditions for employees within the Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Library Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, and public technical universities.

Union leaders say negotiations have dragged on for several years, with no concrete results. TEWU criticized government agencies for “back and forth” discussions that have lasted four years, leaving members uncertain about their terms of employment.

With the upcoming academic year, TEWU warns the delay could severely impact operations, particularly as members prepare to support first-year admissions across various institutions. If the government does not act, an indefinite strike will start on November 18, according to the union’s statement.
