Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed concerns about declining public trust in its operations, reaffirming its readiness to conduct transparent and credible general elections on December 7.
The response follows findings from an Afrobarometer report by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), which suggested that public confidence in the Commission’s independence and impartiality is waning.
Deputy Chairperson of the EC, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, rejected the claims in an interview, describing them as baseless. He reassured Ghanaians of the EC’s commitment to electoral integrity, highlighting measures taken to improve the credibility of the process.
“We have implemented advanced biometric systems, provided rigorous training for poll staff, and bolstered oversight mechanisms at all polling stations,” Dr. Asare said.
He also emphasized Ghana’s strong track record in managing elections across Africa. “When it comes to the quality of elections in Africa, Ghana is one of the best on the continent. We are one of the best in the business.”
Addressing recent calls for a forensic audit, Dr. Asare reminded the public of the Commission’s transparency. “You will recall that during our nationally televised meeting, it was evident to all Ghanaians
