The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly criticised comments made by a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) against former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

In a viral video, Dela Edem, an aide to former President John Mahama and a member of the NDC, was heard making disparaging remarks about the former leader, describing him as “evil” and attributing his health challenges to a supposed curse.

In a statement issued on Thursday, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, labelled the remarks as “despicable, shameful, and disgraceful.”

“These unprovoked attacks on the revered statesman and former president are utterly unacceptable,” the statement read.

The ruling party has called on Mr Mahama to publicly condemn the comments and take disciplinary action against his aide.

“The silence from Mr Mahama is disappointing. As a former president, he must show leadership by distancing himself from such disgraceful remarks and issuing an apology to President Kufuor,” the statement added.

The NPP highlighted Mr Kufuor’s legacy as a respected statesman, both in Ghana and internationally, noting his contributions to national development during his presidency.

Dela Edem’s remarks, made during a discussion on TV XYZ, have sparked widespread criticism, with many describing the comments as unwarranted and deeply disrespectful.
