Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on Ghanaians to avoid repeating what he described as the “mistakes” of the 2016 and 2020 elections by voting against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking at a rally at the Nsawam Adoagyiri lorry station during his five-day tour of the Eastern Region, Mr. Mahama urged voters to choose the NDC in the upcoming December 2024 elections. He argued that the NPP’s leadership had failed to address the country’s economic challenges and claimed that even many of the party’s supporters were disillusioned with its governance.

“In 2016, we made a wrong choice. In 2020, we repeated that choice. But I am confident that on 7 December 2024, we will correct those mistakes and bring the NDC back into government,” Mr. Mahama said.

He emphasised that voters must seize the opportunity to transform the country’s fortunes, warning that poor electoral choices lead to economic hardship.

“At all times, everyone desires a good life and development. The choices we make have consequences. If we vote well, there will be freedom and development; if we don’t, there will be hardships. December 7th is another opportunity to right the wrong by voting for the NDC,” he added.

The former president’s comments come as Ghana prepares for a tightly contested general election next month, with the NDC seeking to unseat the incumbent NPP government.
