Ghana’s Supreme Court is set to deliver its judgment on December 18, 2024, in a constitutional challenge against the Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill. The case, brought by journalist Richard Dela Sky, has been before the court since May.

Critics of the delay have accused the Chief Justice of stalling proceedings. However, the Judicial Service attributed the postponements to procedural issues, including the failure of parties to file required documents.

Both the Speaker of Parliament and the Attorney General were previously granted permission to submit their defences in the case.

At a hearing on Tuesday, the court allowed Mr. Sky to amend parts of his statement, giving the defendants additional time to respond. Following this, the court set the December date for its final decision.

The Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill has been a polarising topic in Ghana, with supporters arguing it reflects societal values, while critics say it infringes on human rights.
