Mahama Accuses Jubilee House of Running Fake News Campaign Against Him

Former President John Dramani Mahama has accused Ghana’s Jubilee House of orchestrating a social media campaign aimed at spreading misinformation to undermine his credibility and political ambitions.

Speaking at a rally in the Asene Manso Akroso constituency of the Eastern Region on Tuesday, November 19, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer alleged that the seat of government was at the heart of efforts to discredit him and other political figures.

His remarks followed a denial by the Chief of Akyem Akroso, Nana Kwabena Ofori, who recently refuted reports claiming he had endorsed New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during a visit to the area.

Mr Mahama called on Ghanaians to remain vigilant and verify information they encounter as the 2024 elections approach, warning against the dangers of misinformation.

“While Nana was speaking, he said journalists should be careful not to misrepresent him. Nana, it is not the journalists; it is the Jubilee House. That is where people are misrepresented. It is called fake news when what you have not said is reported as something you have said,” he remarked.

He further alleged, “It is not the right thing, but they have done it to me, to you, and to many others. All fake news on social media originates from the Jubilee House.”

The accusations add to rising political tensions as Ghana prepares for what is expected to be a fiercely contested election.
