Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sworn in five new ambassadors, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to diplomacy and its influence on the global stage. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, 19 November 2024, at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The newly appointed ambassadors include Mrs. Matilda Aku Alomatu Osei-Agyeman (Austria), Ms. Vivian Kafui Akua Asempapa (Senegal), Mrs. Regina Appiah-Sam (Spain), Mr. McArios Akanbeanab Akanbong (Iran), and Dr. Senalor Kwabla Yawlui (Sierra Leone). Their appointments were made in consultation with the Council of State, in line with Ghana’s constitutional processes.

Addressing the gathering, President Akufo-Addo described the diplomats’ roles as critical to advancing Ghana’s national interests amidst global challenges, such as the ongoing economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“These appointments come at a pivotal time in both global affairs and Ghana’s development journey,” he said. “The challenges of recent years have shown that no country can go it alone. Diplomacy and international cooperation are more vital than ever.”

The President expressed confidence in the ambassadors’ ability to strengthen Ghana’s ties with the international community, enhance economic recovery efforts, and promote the nation’s reputation abroad.

The event reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to active participation in international relations during a time of global uncertainty.
