9Deputy Minister for Information, Sylvester Tetteh, has refuted claims that he demolished a bungalow belonging to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in the Akwasa area of the Greater Accra Region.

Mr. Tetteh, who represents Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro in parliament, dismissed the accusations as baseless and attributed the controversy to administrative failings within GBC. Speaking to the media, he clarified that the demolition was carried out by the Ga South Municipal Assembly as part of an agreement with GBC to repurpose the land for a public school.

“There is no bungalow here,” he stated. “What they claim to be GBC property is an old, dilapidated structure that hasn’t housed any GBC staff for years. Instead, it has been occupied by an individual who has been paying rent.”

The MP further challenged GBC’s Director of Legal Affairs to produce evidence that the demolished structure was on a separate parcel of land from the one allocated to him for development. He also criticised the Director for involving the police and posting his photograph on social media.

As a Deputy Minister for Information, Mr. Tetteh announced plans to investigate the allocation of GBC lands in the area, alleging that some plots had been sold to private individuals.

“I will look into how GBC lands have been used to build private homes in this area,” he said. “This matter requires urgent attention, and we will hold those responsible accountable.”

The incident has sparked public debate about land use and accountability within state institutions. Neither GBC nor the Ga South Municipal Assembly has issued further statements.
