Jordan Ayew has made Premier League history, becoming the first Ghanaian player to score 40 goals in the competition.

The 32-year-old forward achieved the milestone with a calm 95th-minute penalty during Leicester City’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Ayew’s record-breaking achievement places him at the top of Ghanaian scorers in the Premier League, surpassing Tony Yeboah, who scored 24 goals, and Michael Essien, who netted 17.

The match itself was a tough encounter for Leicester, who were outplayed by a dominant Chelsea side. Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring for the visitors in the 15th minute, finishing off a clever pass from Enzo Fernandez. Fernandez added a second shortly after, heading home a rebound from Jackson’s initial shot.

Leicester’s struggles were compounded by the early loss of Harry Winks to an ankle injury, and they failed to create significant chances for most of the game. Kasey McAteer came closest to scoring in the first half, but his effort was off target.

Chelsea controlled proceedings with 66% possession, a performance that lifted them to third in the Premier League table.

Despite the defeat, Ayew’s historic goal provided Leicester fans with a silver lining on an otherwise difficult afternoon.
