President Nana Akufo-Addo has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Oil and Gas services terminal at the Takoradi Port, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to boost its oil and gas industry and strengthen its position as a key player in international trade.

The terminal is designed to provide a world-class shore-based logistics hub, featuring offshore supply vessel (OSV) berthing facilities and a 200,000 square meter serviced waterfront area. These facilities will support offshore oil and gas exploration and production operations, including workshops, storage facilities, and logistics services.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo described the project as a demonstration of Ghana’s ambition to become a leading hub for oil and gas services in West Africa.

“This bold step showcases Ghana’s progress in becoming a leading hub for oil and gas services,” he said.

The new terminal includes a 550-meter quay wall with a draft of 10 meters, offering enhanced capabilities for offshore supply services, heavy engineering, and fabrication activities. It complements existing infrastructure at Takoradi Port, such as the Atlantic Container and Multipurpose Terminal and the recently built dry bulk terminal.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the importance of such investments, saying they underscore his government’s commitment to making Ghana’s ports competitive gateways for international trade and regional integration.

Future Developments Planned
The President also reiterated his government’s plans to establish a third commercial port in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region. Feasibility studies, stakeholder consultations, and environmental impact assessments for the Keta port project are already underway, he noted.

Michael Luguje, Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, urged stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to capitalize on the new facility.

“We engaged with the industry during a downturn, and they told us this terminal was long overdue. We’re happy to report it’s now ready, and we invite the industry to settle here and take advantage of our one-stop shop,” he said.

The terminal is expected to streamline operations in the petroleum sector, further solidifying Ghana’s status as a key destination for oil and gas exploration and production activities.
