In a bold move to maintain public order ahead of the December 7 elections, the Ghana Police Service has arrested 26 individuals for brandishing and recklessly firing toy guns in a public space. The arrests come as part of an ongoing special operation aimed at curbing what authorities describe as a growing trend in parts of the country.

According to the police, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation and are currently assisting with investigations. A cache of toy guns has been retrieved as evidence. The offenders are set to face court on charges including “offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace,” under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The police issued a stern warning to the youth, urging them to desist from such activities, which they say disrupt public peace and safety. Efforts to arrest other individuals involved in the act are ongoing.

“We will do whatever it takes to ensure our country remains peaceful,” the police assured, reiterating their commitment to upholding law and order.
