Armed policemen and civilians stormed the premises of Metro TV in Accra on Wednesday, 27 November 2024, interrupting a live broadcast of the station’s morning show.

Randy Abbey, the host of the Good Morning Ghana show, reported the incident on air, stating that the intruders attempted to force their way into the studio, injuring a security guard in the process. The attackers were reportedly trying to enter the premises despite security personnel’s efforts to stop them.

“We do not know the reason behind the attack, but they were trying to forcibly enter the studio,” Abbey said.

At the time of the disruption, Kwasi Pratt, editor of the Insight newspaper, and Dr. Richard Asante Yeboah, Executive Secretary of the Public Servants Housing Loan Scheme, were guests on the show. Pratt confirmed that the armed men were still attempting to enter the studio during the broadcast.

The disturbance prompted the show to cut to an abrupt break as the situation unfolded. Police were quickly dispatched to the scene to restore order. One security guard was reportedly injured during the confrontation.

Metro TV management has said it will hold a meeting to investigate the cause of the attack and decide on the next steps. The station has yet to provide further details on the incident.
