Ghana’s National Election Security Taskforce has unveiled a financial reward initiative to encourage public participation in ensuring a secure election environment ahead of the December polls.

Under the scheme, individuals who provide actionable information about potential security threats to the police or other security agencies will receive rewards ranging from GH¢1,000 to GH¢20,000.

The announcement was made by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, during a meeting with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) on Wednesday, 27 November.

Dr. Dampare highlighted that the initiative is designed to enhance security during the elections by fostering community involvement. He explained that informants would be rewarded based on the effectiveness of the information they provide, with the specific amount determined after operationalizing the tip-off.

A toll-free hotline, 0800-311-311, has been set up for the public to share information confidentially. Dr. Dampare assured that individuals could specify their preferred method of receiving the reward once their information led to a successful operation.
