The Ghana Police Service has clarified that some of its officers upon a request from the Court escorted a bailiff and a judgment creditor to execute a court order against Accra-based Metro TV on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Nonetheless, the Police said it is investigating the incident.

The explanation follows reports that some armed persons invaded the premises of the TV station and disrupted a live programme in the process.

According to a staff member of Metro TV who spoke to Myjoyonline, about 10 officers were present on the premises. A video shared online showed Metro TV’s Morning Show host, Dr Randy Abbey, confronting some of the officers and questioning their actions.

Dr Abbey disclosed that the station’s private security personnel sustained injuries while attempting to prevent the officers from accessing the studio.

“Our private security has been trying to prevent them, and a couple of them are injured,” Dr Abbey stated.

He confirmed that the individuals were armed police officers and others who tried to forcibly enter the studio.

In a separate video, Dr Abbey alleged that the officers claimed they were enforcing a court order and had even attempted to seize his vehicle.

But the Police Service, in a statement has clarified that the incident occurred following a request from the court.

It said Police officers had accompanied a court bailiff, along with a representative of Vodacom Business (Ghana) Limited, to enforce a court order against the TV station.

The Police further assured the public, as well as the management and staff of Metro TV, that a thorough investigation was underway and urged all parties to remain calm and cooperate fully with the investigation.
