Ghana’s Black Stars have dropped to 77th in the latest FIFA rankings, a decline of four places, following a disappointing end to their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign.

Previously ranked 73rd in October, Ghana now sits 14th in Africa, trailing behind continental rivals like Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt. The drop in rankings reflects a poor showing in the qualifiers, where the Black Stars earned only three points from six matches, finishing bottom of Group F.

The campaign concluded with a 1-1 draw against Angola and a surprising 2-1 home loss to Niger, eliminating Ghana from contention for the AFCON 2025 tournament. Niger, in contrast, surged nine places to 122nd in the global standings, highlighting Ghana’s struggles in what has been a challenging year for the team.

Ghana’s highest FIFA ranking in 2024 was 67th, achieved in February, but the team has since experienced a steady decline. Despite this setback, Ghana remains ahead of Zambia and Gabon in Africa, though they trail the likes of Cape Verde and Burkina Faso.

Looking forward, the Black Stars will turn their focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, beginning in March, as they seek to rebuild and regain their international standing.

Meanwhile, Argentina continues to top the global rankings, followed by France, with Spain and England closing in at third and fourth. Brazil remains in fifth place, and there have been no changes in the top ten since July.
