The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has denied allegations from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding ballot paper shortfalls in the Volta Region, a stronghold for the party. In a statement issued on November 29, Samuel Tettey, the EC’s Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, defended the Commission’s transparency, asserting that all discrepancies concerning the printing and distribution of ballots had been addressed openly.

The NDC had raised concerns, with its Director of Elections, Dr Edward Omane Boamae, accusing the EC of dishonesty in explaining the cause of the shortfalls. Dr Boamae posted on Facebook, questioning why such errors were occurring in the Volta Region and stated he would attend an upcoming Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to address the issue.

In response, Tettey emphasized that political parties were informed of the shortfalls in writing, and reprinting efforts were underway to rectify the situation. He dismissed claims that the EC had anything to hide, pointing out that if this were the case, the Commission would not have publicly disclosed the need for reprints.

Tettey urged the public to disregard what he described as “misleading” information aimed at undermining the Commission’s credibility, asserting that the EC remained committed to operating in a transparent and accountable manner.
