The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that no soldiers will be stationed at polling stations during the upcoming 2024 elections, with the Ghana Police Service (GPS) taking the lead in election security.

In a statement issued by Brigadier General Eric Aggrey Quashie, Director General of the Public Affairs Department, the GAF outlined its role, stating that military personnel will only be deployed at polling stations if specifically requested by the police. The Armed Forces emphasized their support role, aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure electoral process, in cooperation with the police.

The GAF also warned the public to be vigilant and report any individuals impersonating military personnel or wearing unauthorized military uniforms. Such incidents should be immediately reported to the police or through the GPS’s toll-free numbers: 18555 or 0800 311 311.

The Armed Forces called on citizens to cooperate with security personnel to help ensure a smooth and successful election.
