Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has denied allegations that she distributed food to voters during the special voting exercise.

The controversy stemmed from videos and reports showing the MP at the Legon Police Station polling centre, where she was allegedly seen giving out food and water to people in the voting queue.

John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, condemned the act, calling it illegal and a violation of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) regulations. Dumelo claimed that such actions undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

In an interview with Joy News, Lydia Alhassan denied the allegations, dismissing suggestions that her actions were meant to influence voters or breach electoral rules.

“I wasn’t here. I don’t know if you saw me here. I came before 6 am and left a few minutes ago. I don’t even know what you’re talking about,” Alhassan stated. “I am yet to find out from them what happened.”

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has since launched an investigation into the alleged food-sharing incident in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
