NDC to Audit Recalled Ballot Booklets in Western and Eastern Regions Before Destruction

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to conduct a thorough audit of recalled ballot booklets intended for destruction in Ghana’s Western and Eastern Regions.

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the party’s Director of Elections and IT, confirmed the decision, stressing the importance of transparency in handling the ballot materials. He explained that due to the large volume of ballots involved, it would be impractical for the destruction to occur as initially scheduled.

“Given the volumes, the destruction of the ballot papers cannot take place today,” Dr Boamah said. The audit aims to ensure all materials are properly accounted for, safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.

In a Facebook post on December 3, Dr Boamah further emphasised the need for vigilance, reminding the Electoral Commission (EC) that it had previously lost public trust. “The Commission must never forget they lost our trust long ago,” he wrote, calling for rigorous oversight of the process.

This move follows an earlier incident on December 1, when the EC ordered a recall and reprinting of ballot papers for the Eastern and Western Regions due to a leak that raised concerns over potential electoral malpractice.
