The 9th edition of Italian Cuisine Week in the World, a celebration of Italy’s rich culinary heritage, was recently held in Accra, Ghana. The event took place at Pomona restaurant and is part of a global initiative by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Celebrated annually in November across Italian embassies worldwide, the event highlights the country’s cuisine and wine.

In collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), Italian Cuisine Week has become a key tool in showcasing Italian food culture while fostering international connections. This year, the event focused on themes of sustainability and innovation, strengthening ties between Italian and Ghanaian communities.

Italy’s Ambassador to Ghana, Daniela d’Orlandi, highlighted the event’s purpose as a platform to promote Italy’s agricultural and food industries. She stated, “This is the 9th edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World. It’s a flagship initiative to celebrate Italian cuisine and wine at embassies and consulates globally in November each year.”

Ambassador d’Orlandi emphasized the event’s mission to merge tradition, innovation, and sustainability while using food as a form of cultural diplomacy. She also noted its value as a networking opportunity, bringing together individuals from the Italian and Ghanaian communities, as well as representatives from various sectors, including business, media, and society, to build stronger bonds between the two nations.

As her tenure in Ghana nears its end, Ambassador d’Orlandi expressed her gratitude for the warm hospitality she received. “I felt very welcomed, and I thank Ghana for making my time here wonderful,” she said.

The event attracted prominent Ghanaian and Italian business leaders, diplomats, media professionals, and wine enthusiasts, who enjoyed a showcase of Italy’s finest culinary offerings. Performances by Ghanaian artists Fameye and Anabel added vibrancy to the evening, celebrating the unity of the two cultures through music and entertainment.
