Ghana’s two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are finalising preparations for their largest rallies ahead of the December 7 elections.

In a surprising move, both parties have chosen venues close to each other, with the NDC holding its rally at Zurak Park in Madina and the NPP gathering at Legon, just a short distance away.

At Zurak Park, NDC supporters are busy setting up stages, decorations, and logistics for their event on Thursday, December 5. Ludwig Hlodze, the party’s Director of Logistics and Protocol, reassured that they have the support of the police to manage the crowd. “We are ensuring everything is in place to welcome John Dramani Mahama,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NPP is also making final preparations at the Legon venue. Isaac Jay Hyde, the Deputy National Youth Organiser, expressed confidence in their readiness. “Everything has been smooth, and we are inviting all Ghanaians to hear the NPP’s message,” he stated.

With both rallies taking place near the heavily trafficked Legon-Madina stretch, significant traffic disruptions are expected. The roads, already known for congestion, are likely to face even greater pressure as supporters from both parties flock to the venues.

As December 5 draws closer, attention will be focused on the rallies, where party leaders will seek to energise their bases in the final push before election day.
