The Electoral Commission (EC) has taken proactive steps to ensure the smooth distribution of electoral materials to remote areas in the Afram Plains North and South constituencies ahead of the 2024 elections. To reach the dwarf islands and other hard-to-reach regions, the EC has procured speed boats for the transportation of materials.
In addition, the Ghana Air Force will assist in airlifting electoral materials to expedite the collation of results from areas with limited road access and poor internet connectivity.
During the 2020 elections, delays in receiving results from these remote areas, caused by challenges in network connectivity, were a significant issue. To avoid a repeat of this, John Appiah Baffour, Eastern Regional Director of the EC, assured that comprehensive measures are in place for efficient result collation this time.
“We have hired speedboats to retrieve the results from Afram Plains North and South, and the Ghana Army is providing us with a helicopter to airlift the materials,” Baffour told Citi News. “We are confident that this will ensure swift results and a smooth election process.”
