Former President John Mahama, the flagbearer of Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made serious allegations against the Electoral Commission (EC), accusing it of attempting to aid the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in rigging the upcoming elections.

Mahama, in a statement on Facebook on Friday, December 6 highlighted several cases of exposed validating stamps reported to the Commission since Thursday night, yet the Commission has failed to issue a clear directive to prevent further disclosures. He argues that this exposure could potentially allow those seeking to manipulate the election to produce counterfeit stamps and undermine the voting process.

“With less than 24 hours to go, it has become obvious that the Electoral Commission is determined to aid the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the elections.

“But they will fail because the people of Ghana are determined to vote for change and protect their ballots,” Mahama stated.

The NDC leader also referenced an internal memo from the EC, dated October 10, 2024, which he alleges outlines a plan to facilitate ballot stuffing by leaking serial numbers of the validating stamps ahead of polling day.

Mahama has called for action from a range of stakeholders, including the National Peace Council, religious and traditional leaders, civil society groups, and the international community, urging them to intervene and hold the EC accountable for its actions.

Despite these claims, Mahama expressed confidence that the alleged plot would ultimately fail, asserting that Ghanaians are committed to voting for change and safeguarding the integrity of their ballots.
