Fred Tetteh, Deputy Head of Research at the Electoral Commission (EC), has confirmed that indelible ink will be utilized in the upcoming December elections to enhance the integrity of the voting process. This initiative aims to bolster voter confidence and ensure a transparent and credible electoral experience.

“We will be using indelible ink, and every voter will dip their little finger in it. Before issuing the presidential ballot, the ballot paper issuer must ensure that the ballot paper is validated at the top right or left corner on the back,” Mr. Tetteh stated.

He also advised voters to ensure that the tissue provided for cleaning their fingers is used properly before touching the ballot paper to avoid staining it.

His comments come in response to concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of certain electoral officers and the use of easily removable indelible ink during previous exercises.

In an interview with Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Tetteh stressed the importance of verifying the validation of ballot papers before voting, stating that this step is crucial for ensuring that votes are accurately counted. He further emphasized the need for hygiene at polling stations, urging voters to ensure that the tissues provided for cleaning their fingers are sanitized.
