The Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the ongoing general elections. She assured Ghanaians that the process is proceeding efficiently across the country.

Speaking from the EC headquarters in Accra, Mensa provided updates on the elections, reiterating the commission’s dedication to delivering a credible and transparent process.

“Reports we have received so far indicate that voting is progressing smoothly nationwide,” she said. “We trust that the good Lord, who has brought us this far, will guide the process to a successful conclusion.”

A key feature of this year’s elections is the historic decision to grant the media full access to all collation centres, including the national collation centre.

Mensa highlighted this as a groundbreaking step toward enhancing transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

“Since the Fourth Republic began in 1992, the media has only been allowed access to the national collation centre during the declaration of results. This is the first time they have access to every collation centre across the country,” she explained.

She described the move as a reflection of the EC’s commitment to principles such as transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, integrity, and responsiveness.

Journalists and civil society organisations have welcomed the decision, viewing it as a significant step in bolstering public trust in the electoral process.
