The National Peace Council (NPC) has condemned a shooting incident in Nyankpala, Northern Region, during Ghana’s December 7 elections, which resulted in one fatality and left another person injured.

In a joint statement with the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and other partners in the Election Situation Room, the NPC expressed its deep condolences to the families of the victims and the local community. The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest of four individuals in connection with the shooting.

“We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the killing and injury of any person during the elections. This violence is unacceptable,” the NPC said, urging the public to respect the peace pact signed by all political parties in November 2024.

The NPC reiterated its call for all stakeholders to uphold peace and stability throughout the electoral process and emphasized the importance of adhering to the pledges made to promote a peaceful environment before, during, and after the elections.
