Faustina Elikplim Akurugu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary seat, defeating incumbent Mike Oquaye Jnr.

The electoral officer at the Dome Kwabenya collation centre declared Akurugu the winner after she secured 51,634 votes, narrowly surpassing Oquaye Jnr, who garnered 50,477 votes.

The seat, previously held by Sarah Adwoa Safo, has now flipped to the NDC in a closely contested race.

The election was marred by tension and conflict between supporters of both parties, with accusations of attempts to undermine the electoral process.

Following the announcement, Akurugu’s supporters erupted in celebration, with loud cheers and jubilant scenes at the collation centre and in the streets outside.
