The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful electoral process, emphasising that party agents at collation centres have been given clear instructions to adhere to the rules.

Addressing the media on Sunday night, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey stressed that the party is focused on ensuring a violence-free election, despite allegations from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) accusing NDC supporters of inciting violence at collation centres.

Kwetey insisted that the NDC has no intention of disrupting the electoral process and is confident of a resounding victory in the polls. He also revealed that President-elect John Mahama is expected to address the nation on Monday, December 9.

While official results are still being finalised, the NDC claimed to have secured 185 out of 276 parliamentary seats.

In response to recent comments from the NPP, Kwetey dismissed the opposition’s remarks about a presidential candidate conceding defeat, saying, “When this Tsunami hits, there’s little you can do, in fact, there’s nothing you can do.”

The NDC also urged the Electoral Commission to avoid delays in announcing the results to enable Mahama to take office as the new president.
