Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to upholding the will of the people, assuring Ghanaians that the electoral process was conducted with transparency and impartiality.

Speaking at a press conference on December 8, Mensa emphasized that the EC had fulfilled its constitutional duty in accordance with the highest standards of integrity, and that the forthcoming election results would reflect the true choice of the electorate.

“We will uphold the people’s will,” she declared.

Mensa’s statement follows the announcement of John Dramani Mahama as President-Elect and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing an absolute majority in Parliament. She congratulated all stakeholders for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful and credible election.

Addressing concerns raised during the collation process, Mensa acknowledged challenges but reassured the public of the EC’s commitment to democratic principles.

The 2024 elections have been widely praised for their peaceful conduct, further solidifying Ghana’s standing as a model of democracy in Africa.
