The National Peace Council (NPC) and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) have condemned the vandalism of the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damongo, Savannah Region, after it was set on fire by angry youth.

The incident occurred amid frustration over delays in the declaration of the election results, with eyewitnesses reporting that the youth stormed the office, causing significant damage to the building and its contents. The suspects involved have since been arrested.

In a joint statement, the NPC and WANEP expressed concern over the attack, stating they were aware of reports regarding the destruction of the EC office and collation centre. They urged political supporters to leave collation centres and allow accredited agents to observe the process.

The groups called for calm and urged political leaders to publicly instruct their supporters to respect the Electoral Commission’s work. The NPC further emphasized the importance of professionalism and integrity in the EC’s role to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election.
