The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to mount a strong legal challenge to the results of three parliamentary constituencies announced by the Electoral Commission (EC) at the National Police Training School (NPTS) in Tesano.

On Thursday, December 12, the EC declared the results for Akwatia, Fanteakwa North, and Suhum constituencies in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following a recollation process conducted at the NPTS.

However, the NDC has raised concerns about the legitimacy of the process, questioning the legality of both the venue and the manner in which the results were declared. The party argues that the EC’s actions contravene established procedures.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, December 16, George Loh, Deputy Director of Legal Affairs for the NDC, expressed the party’s determination to challenge the results. He stated that the Greater Accra Regional EC office had exceeded its jurisdiction by declaring the results outside the respective constituencies, where they should have been announced.

Loh insisted that the NDC viewed the declarations as unlawful, and vowed to seek redress through the courts.

“We were invited by the EC to the National Police Training School and we attended, waiting for the process to conclude. Even if the process had been completed, it should have been done in the respective regions, in line with the law,” Loh said. “An illegality is an illegality, and we will fight it in court. We will challenge all those declarations made at the Police Training School to the very end.”
