President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged to prioritise the future of Ghana’s youth following his victory in the December 7 general elections.

Mahama, who secured 6,328,397 votes (56.55%) to defeat his nearest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), acknowledged the high expectations of young Ghanaians, which he said would drive his efforts to improve the country’s future.

Speaking in an interview with DW TV on Monday, 16th December, Mahama reflected on the enthusiasm of young voters, expressing a deep sense of responsibility.

“Seeing the faces of young people at all the rallies and the high expectations they have in our government gives me a humble feeling,” he said. “It inspires me to do my best to turn this country around and create a better future for our youth.”

Mahama described the need for a “reset” in Ghana, emphasising the importance of creating a better environment for young people to thrive and realise their full potential.

He also acknowledged the widespread sense of hopelessness among many young Ghanaians, who face limited opportunities despite their talents. Mahama committed to fostering a more inclusive environment where all young people, regardless of their background, have the chance to succeed.
