South Dayi Member of Parliament (MP), Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, has strongly criticised the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, following the Electoral Commission’s (EC) declaration of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) victory in seven out of nine contested parliamentary seats.

In an interview with TV3 on Saturday, December 21, during the recollation process at the EC’s Greater Accra regional office, Mr Dafeamekpor accused the NPP of manipulating the electoral process to secure a majority in Parliament.

He expressed frustration at Afenyo-Markin’s comments, particularly following the announcement of the NPP’s success in constituencies including Nsawam Adoagyiri, Obuasi East, and Tema Central, among others, following a court-ordered recollation of results.

“When a matter is in court, don’t you respect the court process?” the visibly agitated MP asked. “Afenyo is granting a press conference, praising an outcome that is still before the Supreme Court. And he is telling me to take it in good faith. We are not brothers, Afenyo, we are not!”

Mr Dafeamekpor also accused the NPP of hypocrisy, alleging that the party uses dishonest tactics to win elections. “Afenyo should stop fabricating stories to spice up his press conferences,” he added.

Vowing retribution, Mr Dafeamekpor stated that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) would hold the ruling party accountable if they return to power. “They may be in government, but they are no longer in power. The power has left them and is now transitioning to us. When we get the power, we will show them where power lies!” he declared.

The EC’s declaration follows a recollation of results in seven constituencies, including Nsawam Adoagyiri, Obuasi East, Tema Central, Ahafo Ano North, Okaikwei Central, Ahafo Ano South West, and Techiman South. Afenyo-Markin had celebrated the NPP’s victories in a press conference, urging the NDC to accept the results in good faith.
