The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify the re-collation of parliamentary election results in four constituencies: Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South.

Delivering the ruling on Friday, December 27, Justice Gabriel Pwamang stated that the court had used its discretionary powers to quash the orders for re-collation in these constituencies, citing the unique circumstances surrounding each case.

“Since the orders which have been brought to be quashed are separate and distinct, we have decided to exercise our discretionary power to quash by certiorari having regard to the peculiar circumstances of each ruling,” Justice Pwamang said.

However, the court upheld the re-collated results in two other constituencies, Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ahafo Ano North, leaving the results in these areas unchanged.

Speaking after the ruling, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, a member of the NDC’s legal team, described the decision as a victory for the rule of law and electoral integrity. She noted the ruling’s importance in ensuring justice in contentious electoral matters.

“We are generally satisfied with the ruling. It signifies that justice has been served, and we will proceed with the necessary legal steps as directed by the court,” she said.

The NDC now plans to file an affidavit in opposition to the application for mandamus in respect of the four constituencies, with a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
