The Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has expressed serious concerns about the safety of electoral officers ahead of the rerun in the Dome Kwabenya constituency.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled a rerun for the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre, but the NDC has rejected the move. Nukpenu warned that if the rerun proceeds, the safety of the electoral officials cannot be guaranteed. He claimed that the community has firmly stated their opposition to the rerun, asserting that the results of the initial vote on December 7, in which Elikplim Akurugu emerged victorious, should stand.

“They voted overwhelmingly for Elikplim Akurugu. That result stands,” Nukpenu said in an interview with Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, December 29. “Should any official dare bring a ballot box or papers to alter the result, they will not participate, and we cannot guarantee the safety of those conducting the exercise.”

Nukpenu also warned against the use of police or military forces to intimidate the residents of Abokobi. He emphasized that the community is resolute in their stance and would not back down.

“No one should think they can use the police or the military to intimidate the people of Abokobi. They will rise to the occasion,” he added.
