Planning Committee Assures Smooth Transition to 9th Parliament

Ghana’s 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic will officially dissolve on Monday, January 6, 2025, with newly elected members of the 9th Parliament set to convene later that evening at 11:00 PM to elect a new Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.

The committee overseeing the transition has assured the public that the process will be conducted smoothly and peacefully, emphasising a commitment to upholding Ghana’s democratic values.

Camillo Pwamang, Deputy Coordinator for the Dissolution and Inauguration Committee and Deputy Clerk of Parliament, spoke to the media, emphasising the importance of this transition in strengthening the country’s democratic foundation.

“This transition is another milestone in our proud democratic tradition,” Pwamang said. “We are determined to ensure it is carried out with the highest regard for constitutional and procedural integrity. This period requires not only administrative efficiency but a commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and national unity.”

Gifty Twum Ampofo, Chairperson of the Planning Committee, added that they are working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure the Speaker’s election is fair and transparent.

“The election of the Speaker of Parliament on January 6 is a crucial moment that will set the tone for legislative leadership in the coming term. We are collaborating with all stakeholders to guarantee this process is fair and transparent,” she stated.

The presidential inauguration, set for January 7, 2025, will mark the beginning of a new governance chapter, celebrating Ghana’s enduring democratic values. The public is invited to participate in this historic occasion.
