The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released GH¢270 million to healthcare providers across Ghana to cover claims submitted and vetted for October 2024, as well as part of November 2024.

In a statement issued on January 3, Dr Da-Costa Aboagye, Chief Executive of the NHIA, confirmed that the payments were made within the established three-month reimbursement period, with no outstanding claims left to settle.

“This payment brings the total amount disbursed by the NHIA over the last four months to more than GH¢1.2 billion,” Dr Aboagye said. “This highlights our commitment to supporting healthcare providers and ensuring the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).”

The NHIA chief also encouraged healthcare facilities to submit claims promptly, emphasizing that claims should not cover a period exceeding 90 days.

In addition to this latest payment, the NHIA has made substantial disbursements in recent months. On December 1, 2024, GH¢200 million was released for claims covering September and part of October 2024, following an earlier payment of GH¢335 million on October 9, 2024, for claims related to August 2024. The NHIA had also disbursed GH¢402 million in September 2024 to cover claims for June and July 2024.

These payments underline the NHIA’s ongoing efforts to meet its financial commitments to healthcare providers and strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.
