President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow following the devastating fire that ravaged large sections of the Kantamanto Market in Accra on January 2, leaving many traders with significant losses.

The fire, which destroyed both goods and livelihoods, has left traders reeling. In a statement on January 3, during his final State of the Nation address in Parliament, President Akufo-Addo described the incident as “deeply shocking” and extended his heartfelt condolences to those affected.

“My thoughts and prayers are with those impacted,” the President said, emphasising his solidarity with the market traders. He assured the public that the government would work with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the blaze.

President Akufo-Addo also pledged to provide the necessary support to help the traders rebuild their businesses, stressing that the government stood ready to assist during this difficult period.

He urged all Ghanaians to come together to support those in need, highlighting the importance of unity and compassion in the face of crisis.

“Together, we can extend a helping hand to our fellow Ghanaians in need,” he added.
