A group of unidentified thieves has raided the Buffer Stock Company warehouse in the Northern Region, making off with over 150 bags of maize and other foodstuffs intended for Senior High Schools (SHS) in the area.

The robbery, which took place in the late hours of Friday, January 3, targeted food supplies meant for the School Feeding Program. Items stolen include beans, corn, cooking oil, and mackerel, leaving the warehouse nearly empty.

The theft has disrupted the vital program, which provides meals to students across the region. There are growing suspicions that the perpetrators may have been party-affiliated individuals, as the raid occurred shortly after the recent elections and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, conceded defeat.

In the aftermath of the incident, several SHS headmasters and members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) visited the warehouse to assess the damage. They were met with empty shelves and signs of forced entry.

This is not the first attack on the warehouse. A previous theft on December 8, 2024, saw several bags of rice and cooking oil stolen.

Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent raid and are assisting police with their investigations. Authorities are working to apprehend the remaining culprits and recover the stolen goods.
