The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed a notice of appeal following a High Court ruling that ordered the Electoral Commission to complete the collation and declaration of parliamentary results in four disputed constituencies.

The High Court in Accra granted a mandamus application by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), directing the Electoral Commission to finalise the results in the constituencies of Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South. The NPP had argued that the processes in these areas were incomplete, and the results could not be declared until the collation was finished.

The court upheld the NPP’s argument, ordering the Electoral Commission to complete all collation processes before declaring the winners of the elections. It also instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide adequate security to assist the Electoral Commission in concluding the procedures.

In response to the ruling, the NDC’s Director of Legal Affairs, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, confirmed the party’s intention to appeal. Speaking to the media after the court’s decision, Mr Tamakloe stated that the NDC had already prepared its appeal and would not accept the judgment. “This matter is not yet over. Nobody should be deceived. It will not end here. We are appealing the decision,” he said.

The notice of appeal has now been filed, leaving just days before the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament.
