Ahead of President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for the Mahama Transition Team, has confirmed that ten heads of state will attend the ceremony.

Speaking to the press in Accra, Ofosu also revealed that the event would feature two vice presidents, one speaker of parliament, two former presidents, and representatives from international organizations such as the Commonwealth and the African Development Bank.

The inauguration will be held at Black Star Square, where a parliamentary session will take place, requiring the relocation of Parliament’s sitting to the venue. Access to the parliamentary session will be strictly limited to invited guests.

Ofosu assured that extensive preparations are in place to ensure the smooth running and security of the event, emphasizing Ghana’s commitment to democratic values and peaceful transitions of power.

He also reminded the public that entry to the swearing-in area would be restricted to those with invitation cards. “Guests must present their invitation cards to access the swearing-in area,” he stated.

Guests are expected to be seated by 08:30, with Members of Parliament and other dignitaries arriving shortly thereafter. Formal proceedings will begin at 11:00 when the Speaker escorts the President-elect and Vice President-elect to the Chamber.

Additionally, Ofosu announced temporary road closures in Accra to facilitate the event, including the 28th February Road, Castle Road, and Starlet 91 Road. Traffic from various directions will be redirected, and parking will be available at designated areas such as the back of the Independence Arch, the Forecourt of the State House, and Osu Cemetery Car Park.

“No vehicles will be allowed to park in unauthorized areas or drive through roadblocks,” he added.
