In a remarkable show of dedication, 65-year-old philanthropist Alhaji Yakubu Ayaana has walked 250 kilometers from Kumasi to Accra to honour Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, following his victory in the December 2024 elections.

Beginning his journey in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Yakubu aims to arrive in Accra by January 7, 2025, the day of Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony. This gesture is not just a physical feat, but a heartfelt tribute to Mahama’s leadership and Ghana’s democracy.

Mahama, who served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2017, won the 2024 election with 56.55% of the vote, marking his return to office amidst hopes for renewed progress and stability.

Alhaji Yakubu, known for undertaking symbolic journeys, previously walked to commemorate the second-term inauguration of former President Jerry John Rawlings in 1997. In 1999, he also led a 16-kilometer peace and health walk in Tamale to promote national unity and encourage healthy living.
