Former President John Mahama is poised to be sworn in for a second term following a resounding victory in Ghana’s December 7 elections, marking a historic return to power. The leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured a decisive mandate, reflecting widespread support for his leadership.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for today, January 7, at the Independence Square in Accra, with dignitaries from across Africa and beyond expected to attend. Preparations are underway for what is anticipated to be a grand occasion, with heightened security measures in place to ensure a smooth event.

The Ghana Police Service has implemented a comprehensive security plan, including roadblocks, traffic restrictions, and diversions, particularly around key locations such as the Ako Adjei Interchange, AU Roundabout, and Independence Square.

Key roads in Accra will be closed from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with diversions in place to manage traffic flow. Designated parking areas for attendees include the Forecourt of the State House, Effua Sutherland Park, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture premises.

Mahama’s victory marks a new chapter in Ghana’s political landscape, with the incoming president pledging to focus on economic recovery, inclusivity, and sustainable development during his second term.
