Belgian Foreign Minister leads high-level European Union delegation at President-elect Mahama’s inauguration ceremony

Bernard Quintin, Belgium’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Federal Cultural Institutions, has been tasked by Kaja Kallas, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, to represent the European Union (EU) at the inauguration ceremony of Ghana’s President-elect, John Mahama, on January 7, 2025.

Minister Quintin will be joined by a distinguished delegation, including Irchad Razaaly, the EU Ambassador to Ghana; Carole van Eyll, Belgium’s Ambassador to Ghana; Sibille de Cartier d’Yves, Belgium’s Special Envoy for the Sahel and West Africa; and Philip Haspeslagh, Adviser to the Belgian Foreign Minister.

As the EU’s official representative, Minister Quintin will emphasize the EU-Ghana partnership, focusing on shared priorities such as job creation, economic diversification, sustainability, and regional security.

This inauguration is a pivotal event for Ghana, symbolizing the start of a new era for the country. The presence of a high-level EU delegation underscores the EU’s commitment to fostering sustainable and inclusive development, as well as strengthening regional security in collaboration with Ghana.
