Vincent Obeng, the Returning Officer for Ablekuma North, has stepped down from overseeing the ongoing parliamentary results collation, citing frustrations with the process.

Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Obeng revealed that while results from four out of seven polling stations should been collated, three remained unresolved. He explained that difficulties arose when presiding officers were unable to authenticate the statement of poll and declaration forms.

“We were able to collate four out of the seven stations, but the remaining three are still pending. Two presiding officers couldn’t authenticate their forms, and one couldn’t attend,” he said.

Mr Obeng expressed his frustration, stating, “I’m done with Ablekuma North. The EC should find a new returning officer to finish the work.”

In response, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, expressed regret over Mr Obeng’s decision, attributing it to frustration. He assured that the EC would address the situation and make efforts to bring Mr Obeng back to continue the collation.

The collation process has been fraught with tension, including a recent scuffle over the inclusion of a disputed pink sheet and issues surrounding the authentication of polling station figures, which led to brief altercations before police intervened.
