Parliament has approved the composition of its Appointments Committee, responsible for vetting and recommending nominees for ministerial and key government positions.

First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor has been appointed chair of the committee, with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah serving as Vice Chairperson. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, will take on the role of Ranking Member, while Patricia Appiagyei will serve as Deputy Ranking Member.

The Appointments Committee is tasked with scrutinising and recommending the approval or rejection of individuals nominated by the President for appointments as Ministers of State, their Deputies, and other positions as outlined in the Constitution or relevant legislation.

During a parliamentary session on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Majority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson presented the report on the committee’s composition, urging members to approve the proposed appointments. “The committee respectfully recommends that the house adopts this report and approves the membership of the Appointment and Business Committee,” he said.
