Ghana’s newly sworn-in President, John Mahama, has vowed to continue and complete the construction of unfinished healthcare facilities across the country as part of efforts to enhance healthcare access and improve quality.

Speaking at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Winneba on Thursday, Mahama emphasised his government’s commitment to the health sector, saying, “We shall continue abandoned health projects and operationalise them as key steps towards expanding healthcare access nationwide.”

The President, who assumed office just two days ago, reiterated his focus on boosting healthcare infrastructure and human resources to ensure accessible, high-quality medical services for all Ghanaians.

Ahead of his December 7 election victory, Mahama had pledged to prioritise the completion of neglected projects, a promise he is now set to fulfil. One of his key priorities will be the completion of the Agenda 111 initiative, which aims to build 111 hospitals and three psychiatric facilities in underserved districts across the country.

Under the previous government, only three of the 111 planned hospitals were completed, but none have been operationalised.
