President John Dramani Mahama has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to refrain from destroying or looting state property, urging them to act responsibly to maintain public trust.

His comments follow reports of alleged destruction and looting of state assets by individuals thought to be NDC supporters. Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, Mahama called on his party members to avoid actions that could damage the party’s image.

“I urge all our supporters and those involved in illegal activities such as looting and occupying government offices to stop these actions,” Mahama said. “We must conduct ourselves in a manner that upholds the confidence Ghanaians have in us.”

Mahama cautioned against repeating the mistakes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), whose conduct in 2017, he argued, contributed to their electoral defeat. “Many have said the NPP did the same in 2017, and that’s why Ghanaians voted them out. We must not follow their lead,” he said. “Let us approach things in an orderly way.”

The President also reassured supporters that a full cabinet would be in place within 14 days and advised them to address concerns through the newly appointed ministers once they are in office.

“Government is being formed, ministers will be appointed, and we will have a full cabinet soon,” Mahama added. “If you have any issues, consult with the ministers and have them resolved.”
