The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the public that the ongoing fuel shortage in northern Ghana is being resolved through a series of measures.

Following reports of fuel scarcity in the region, the NPA convened a meeting with the Technical Committee on Energy, which identified logistical issues as the main cause of the shortage.

To alleviate the situation, the NPA has implemented the following actions:

Increased Supply from Kumasi: Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been granted permission to load fuel from the Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) depot in Kumasi for distribution to retail outlets across the five northern regions.

Additional Supplies from Tema: OMCs are also allowed to increase their petrol loads from Tema depots to supplement the Kumasi supply.

Strengthening Northern Stocks: Plans are underway to transport nine million liters of petrol from the Buipe depot to Bolgatanga via pipeline to boost local fuel stocks.

The NPA has reassured the public that there is no cause for panic and that the situation is being addressed swiftly. They also urged consumers to refrain from panic buying, as fuel supplies are sufficient across the country.

“We are implementing a three-pronged solution to resolve this issue promptly,” the NPA said in a statement. “We encourage the public to continue their normal activities and avoid panic buying.”

The NPA’s actions are expected to restore the steady flow of fuel supplies to northern Ghana in the coming days.
